Could It Happen?
Imagine visiting in a family’s home and getting acquainted with them. A year or so later you are there again, and you notice that one of the children is missing. You inquire, “Don’t you have a son named Tim? Where is he?” Your question is met by a table full of blank stares. Finally someone perks up and says, “You know, now that you mention it, I believe we did have a brother by that name. I hadn’t thought about him in quite a while.” Another, whose memory is now jogged, says, “Yes, he used to sit across from me. He was a likeable guy.” Another sibling asks, “Whatever became of him?” No one knows.
Unthinkable, isn’t it! At least, it is in a physical family. How about in a spiritual family, a local church? Might a brother or sister just disappear without our noticing or caring or remembering? “See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God” (Hebrews 12:15a).
